Gold Vermeil

Gold vermeil (pronounced ver-may) is a high-quality form of gold-plated jewellery, crafted to provide the luxurious look of solid gold at a more accessible price.

To be officially considered vermeil, the piece must meet three key requirements: it must be made of a solid sterling silver base, be plated with a minimum of 2.5 microns of gold (a thicker layer than standard gold-plated jewellery), and use gold that is at least 10 karats in purity.

At Antara Atelier, our gold vermeil jewellery is crafted with 18k gold, offering a rich, warm hue and a beautiful finish that balances elegance and affordability.

How Long Does Gold Vermeil Last?
With proper care, gold vermeil jewellery can last several months to a few years, depending on how frequently it is worn and how well it is maintained.

While gold vermeil has a thicker layer of gold compared to standard plated jewellery, it is still susceptible to fading over time, especially if exposed to moisture, chemicals, or friction. By following the recommended care guidelines, you can maximise the lifespan and beauty of your gold vermeil pieces.

Please note that this applies specifically to items plated with yellow gold. For pieces that are silver in colour, such as rhodium-plated or unplated sterling silver items, this issue does not occur because the base metal is solid sterling silver, which maintains its appearance and does not fade in the same way.

How to Care for Gold Vermeil Jewellery
To ensure your gold vermeil jewellery retains its shine and charm for as long as possible, we recommend the following care tips:

Avoid Moisture and Chemicals: Gold vermeil jewellery should not come into contact with water, perfumes, lotions, or household cleaning products, as these can cause the gold plating to fade. Always remove your jewellery before swimming, showering, or applying skincare and fragrances.

Clean Gently: To clean your gold vermeil jewellery, use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to gently wipe the surface. Avoid using polishing cloths designed for solid gold or silver, as they can be too abrasive and may wear away the gold layer.

Store Properly: When not in use, store your gold vermeil pieces in a soft pouch or a lined jewellery box to prevent scratches and minimise exposure to air and humidity.

Avoid Wearing During Physical Activities: Remove your gold vermeil jewellery before exercising, cooking, or engaging in any physical activities that might expose it to sweat, impact, or abrasive surfaces.

Rotate Your Jewellery: To minimise daily wear and tear, consider rotating your jewellery and giving each piece a break from time to time.

Prolonging the Lifespan of Your Jewellery
Caring for your gold vermeil jewellery appropriately is the key to preserving its beauty and sentimental value for as long as possible. Regular maintenance and mindful handling can keep your favourite pieces looking as radiant as the day you received them. At Antara Atelier, we design each piece to be cherished, and with a little care, your jewellery will continue to tell your love stories for as long as possible.
